- Description: Ferocactus Glaucescens is a medium-sized solitary or basically suckering, barrel cactus. As the plant ages, multiple heads are produced and can form a very large mound. This species is sometimes confused with Ferocactus Echidne (DC.) Britton & Rose and may even interbreed with this species.
- Stems: Glaucous gray, up to 55 cm high, up to 50 cm in diameter. Spherical flat at the top, briefly becoming columnar with age.
- Ribs: 11 to 15
- Radial spines: 6 or 7, 2.5-4 cm long, straight, light yellow.
- Central spines: 0 or 1, very similar to radials.
- Flowers: Lemon yellow, funnel-shaped, 3-4 cm in diameter. The crests are oblong, lanceolate, silky, shiny, with fine tassels on the margins. Stamen, style and stamp are yellow. Stigma lobes 12-15.
- Flowering period: late spring and summer. Flowers last a very long time. The plants begin to bloom when they are about 13 cm in diameter.
- Fruits: White, 2 cm long, with remnants of flowers attached.
