- Description: Ferocactus glaucescens f. nudus is the beautiful thornless form of Ferocactus glaucescens. This variety ranges from pure specimens to plants with one or more spines per areole (Partly nudum), but usually the spines are only present on young plants (or new lateral branches) and are completely lost. In mature stems, the stems, flowers, fruits, roots, etc. All other features, such as size and shape, clearly indicate that they are homogeneous.
- Habit: Solitary or mainly sucker, barrel cactus. As the plant ages, multiple heads are produced and can form a very large mound.
- Stems: Glaucous gray, up to 55 cm high, up to 50 cm in diameter. Spherical flat at the top, briefly becoming columnar with age.
- Ribs: 11 to 15 prominent, acute, slightly tubercled and enlarged below areoles, 2 cm high.
- Areoles: Greyish-white felted, young areoles circular, up to 15 mm long in mature flowering plants, narrowing between the flower and spine-bearing part, spaced 2-3 cm or less in older plants.
- Spines: None or very few (indistinguishable from 1 to 3 radial to centre) irregularly distributed over the areoles of young individuals.
- Flowers: Lemon yellow, funnel-shaped, 3-4 cm in diameter. The crests are oblong, lanceolate, silky, shiny; the edges are finely fringed. Stamen, style and stamp are yellow. Stigma lobes: 12-15.
- Flowering season: late spring and summer. Flowers last a very long time. The plants begin to bloom when they are about 13 cm in diameter.
- Fruits: White, 2 cm long, with remnants of flowers attached.
