Aeonyum Haworthii care
Aeoniums can grow in soil in warm climates as perennials. However, these plants are also commonly grown as pot plants on patios or balconies. In cold regions, these plants should be grown in pots and brought inside without freezing. Aeonium requires a lot of attention when kept in the garden with other plants. Tall species of this plant look like bonsai when they are like bushes. If the stems get too long, you can prune them. Thus, soon new roots will form and new plants will emerge. You can make the place you have equipped with plants full in a short time.
Since aeoniums store water in their leaves and stems, their root systems are quite shallow. Unlike other succulents that require dry soil, Aeoniums prefer their soils moist, not too wet. They can produce roots with their stems. You can notice this if your plant overflows from its pot or if its stems fall and touch the ground. You have to be careful that the roots do not dry out. The stem roots will soon transform the already shed parts into new plants. Branches with elongated stems tend to topple and snap off due to the weight of the rosettes. If this happens, you can replant the broken stems.
Aeonyum Haworthii light needs
As with most succulents, Aeoniums grow well in full sun most of the day. In scorching heat and desert conditions, it may be necessary to shade the plant a little. If you are looking after your plant indoors, you can place it in bright but not direct light.
Aeonyum Haworthii soil requirement
An ordinary plant mix with sandy soil or perlite is much better than a mix specially prepared for succulents and cacti. After all, Aeoniums need some moisture. If this plant is grown in a field with dense soil, it is useful to add peat moss to the soil to increase soil porosity.
Aeonyum Haworthii irrigation needs
Water the plant when you see the top of the soil dry in winter. You can test for wetness by digging your finger a few inches into the soil. If you feel that the tip of your finger is dry, you can water the plant. These plants require more moisture than many other succulents. However, excessive moisture in the soil or leaving the plant in wet soil will cause the root of the plant to rot.
Aeonyum Haworthii heat and humidity
These plants prefer the Mediterranean climate. That is, a climate that is not too hot, not too cold and not too dry… Many Aeonium species are native to Texas, California, Louisiana, Florida, etc. It is resistant to cold in the southern regions (9/11). Growing aeoniums in moist, shady soil allows them to grow at high temperatures. However, the main growth period of these plants is between winter and spring. During this period, the temperature is quite low (18-24 degrees Celsius) and the air is humid. These plants are known to stagnate in summer and do not need excessive watering. Of course, conditions where excessive dryness is experienced are not included in this situation.
How to reproduce Aeonyum Haworthii?
Like many succulents, Aeoniums can be easily propagated when pruned. Even stems that fall from the plant can quickly root in the soil around the plant.
With a very sharp and clean tool that will allow you to prune the plant, cut off a piece of young stem bearing a leaf rosette. Leave the cut part in a dry, warm and shaded place for about three days. This will heal the cut part. (The soft tissue (callus) that forms on the surface of a newly pruned plant is important at this point, as it allows the root to dry out when the cut is planted.) Fill a small pot with drainage holes halfway with normal potting soil and half with a soil mix prepared for cacti/succulents. Place the plucked, hardened portion of the section you cut into the soil mix. It will be enough to place this piece deep enough to allow it to stand upright. Then place the pot in an area with indirect bright light and water a little once a week. Once your plant's roots get stronger, let the 5 cm section above the soil dry before watering. If necessary, you can replant the plant in a larger container.
Aeonyum Haworthii potting and repotting
Aeoniums are ideal for growing in pots; because they require very little land. Thanks to the pots, you will have the opportunity to take a closer look at the unique features of this plant. This way, you can better control the conditions your plant needs to grow. You don't even need to water your plant in very humid and rainy areas. You should choose pots with drainage holes to prevent water accumulation and root rot. To maintain the required moisture level, it's a good idea to use an ordinary soil mix rather than a succulent/cactus mix that loses water quickly. If you are growing your aeonium in pots, repot it with a fresh soil mix every two to three years.
